Project Archaeologist – Senior Principal Investigator

JOB SUMMARY:  HRA's Project Archaeologists acts as "Principal Investigator" on cultural resource management projects, taking a lead role in planning, managing and completing background research, field survey, data analysis, and report preparation for their projects. Project Archaeologists manage individual tasks on larger projects as well as entire small projects. Project Archaeologists supervise some HRA staff members as well as the members of their own project teams. Project Archaeologists assume an active role in HRA's business development by contacting some clients, assisting in proposal preparation, and helping develop project budgets.

 

1.  Education:  Advanced degree in archaeology or related discipline.

2.  Experience:  Minimum of three years experience with the application of appropriate State and Federal legislation, regulations, documents and procedures. Some supervisory experience. 

3.  Skills:  Ability to supervise and coordinate members of a project team or field crew.  Writing and data analysis skills sufficient to produce high quality final reports.  Ability to utilize research facilities to lead and/or conduct research activities.  Ability to lead and/or conduct fieldwork effectively using appropriate techniques.  Able to prepare and present some marketing information, proposals, and accurate budget estimates.  Interpersonal skills needed to lead and/or function within a project team and to work closely with a project manager and client personnel.  Communications skills needed to lead and/or participate in the preparation and organization of information to be included in research reports.  Proficient in the use of computer word processor and data base system for the entry of written reports and research data.  Familiarity with the operation and use of photographic cameras, GPS, and GIS equipment and software.
